Community-based storytelling sessions in Keighley using the Imagination Library to improve family cohesion.

My local area theme

What’s on offer?

10-15 minute talk on the evaluation of the Keighley Imagination Library community storytelling sessions on children’s communication skills, reading skills and engagement, along with parent confidence and family cohesion.

What’s it about?

The Imagination Library is a book gifting programme committed to inspiring a love of reading for children everywhere. Each month, enrolled children from birth to age five receive a high quality, age-appropriate book in the post, free of charge. Strong Close Nursery in Keighley holds storytelling sessions based on the books the children receive.  This talk will outline the evaluation of these community storytelling sessions (including interviews with parents) and discuss the impact of this initiative on children’s reading ability, language development and motor skills, as well as more broad impacts on parents and the family unit.

Who’s leading the event?

Jessica Davison, Research and Implementation Assistant at Centre for Applied Education Research (on placement year from Psychology BSc at University of Leeds).
