This event involves a panel discussion focused on enhancing the participation of black and minority ethnic communities in community-led housing initiatives. It will discuss the implications of recently published research on this topic, highlighting the opportunities and challenges for black and minority ethnic communities seeking to develop community-led housing initiatives. The panel will be comprised of Claude Hendrickson MBE (Leeds Community Homes), Henri Baptiste (Pathway Housing Solutions), Yael Arbell (Sheffield Hallam University), and Sonia Bassey (L8 Matters CLT). Following the panel discussion, audience members are invited to participate in a Q&A and discussion.
Recent research has identified that there are significant opportunities to grow black and minority ethnic community-led housing initiatives, responding to housing challenges that members of this community may face. However, there are also barriers to this, including under-representation, funding, awareness, and engagement with strategic bodies. This event aims to reflect on the implications of this research and to provide a framework for progressive discussion of the opportunities to tackle barriers to leadership and participation. A focus will be placed upon discussing actions and recommendations for future intervention.
This event will involve Tom Moore, Senior Lecturer in Geography and Planning at the University of Liverpool; Claude Hendrickson MBE of Leeds Community Homes; Henri Baptiste, Director of Pathway Housing Solutions; Sonia Bassey, L8 Matters CLT, and Yael Arbell, Research Associate at Sheffield Hallam University.
All welcome.
All who have an interest in the topic, including community members, advocacy organisations, policy and decision-makers, funding bodies, researchers, housing associations, and activists.
