Join us for an interactive and insightful event at the University of Liverpool to learn more about European organisations and European culture in the Liverpool City Region, and hear some interesting talks on a range of different projects in Liverpool and beyond. We will have tea and coffee available on arrival and a range of stalls to visit from organisations such as Merseyside Polonia, Dante Alighieri Society, MammaMia Liverpool, Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) Liverpool Branch, German Stammtisch, In-Limbo Project and more. There will also be a fun multilingual workshop activity for children taking place in the morning.
A lunch buffet will be provided at noon, and a range of presentations will be delivered in the afternoon from various speakers. These include representatives of AUGB Liverpool Branch, leaders of Merseyside Polonia, Honorata Mikołajew from Cinema Social Club, Cosi Doerfel Hill from the In Limbo Project, and a team of academic researchers who are working on issues related to European languages and Brexit.
The event will enable attendees to engage with different European cultural organisations and to find out about the work that they do in the region. We will hear about the history of groups/organisations, the services that they offer and any issues they deal with. Below are some examples of topics which will be discussed:
Language/Culture.
Migration experiences.
Access to services such as healthcare, housing, employment.
Brexit/EU Settlement Scheme.
Digital communication and connectedness.
The event will be a friendly and welcoming space and will present ample opportunities for networking amongst attendees.
The event is being led by Stephanie Connor, a PhD researcher in Sociolinguistics at the University of Liverpool, along with representatives from several local organisations. Some academic researchers from The University of Liverpool will also participate.
The morning of the event is open to both adults and children, since children may wish to participate in the separate multilingual workshop. The afternoon is open to adults who are interested in hearing from our speakers, and who may wish to participate in discussions.
Although the event is open to anybody who is interested, it may appeal particularly to Europeans living in the Liverpool City Region, or those who are already affiliated with the participating organisations.
