Businesses are integral parts of communities, playing an important role in contributing to the stability and growth of the local economy, such as jobs, goods and services, especially during crises. However, there is a notable failure rate with approximately 60% of SMEs failing within their first three years of operation, and only about 30% of businesses survive to reach their tenth year. The high failure rate of SMEs has significant implications, including the stability of the local economy and society, the loss of innovation, a decline in entrepreneurial activity and the creation of a vicious cycle of lacking investment, and debt and financial stress. Resilience building for sustainable development is a long term, ongoing learning process. This event brings together two good business practices – responsible business and sustainable business – to discuss essential aspects of business resilience and sustainability in the context of recent developments.
