Our digital lives theme

What’s on offer?

How close are we to having our own version of Marvel’s Jarvis or Star Wars’ C-3PO? At this event, we will explore how today’s lived experiences of AI are bringing us closer to the AI companions we’ve seen throughout science fiction. Join Dr Kamilya Suleymenova and Dr Mary Dawood for a series of talks on AI in popular culture, recent developments, prompt engineering and a Q&A.

What’s it about?

Join us for an exploration of recent AI developments, where we'll examine the practical advancements in AI and generative AI that are narrowing the gap between fiction and reality. We'll begin with a nostalgic trip through some of popular culture's notable AI sidekicks, then discuss how the imagination of writers has influenced the real-world AI tools you can use today. By inviting the familiar AI tools from famous movies and TV shows we aim to help you better understand current developments and explore the potential of modern generative AI, so we can visualise what life might look like as AI continues to evolve.

Navigating the future is always uncertain and can be scary. However, as unfamiliar as these recent technological advancements may be, they can be apprehended with the help of our already familiar heroes. Drawing on these parallels, we can create a safe and enticing space for jumping into the uncharted territory of generative AI. Do not get left behind! Staying engaged and aware can help us prepare for and shape this future.

Whether you're new to AI or simply curious, this talk aims to encourage you to take the first steps towards interacting with generative AI in your daily life.
