Join our 'Green Space Challenge' to help contribute to scientific research on how local outdoor spaces affect your health and wellbeing. We’re encouraging as many people as possible to sign up to our citizen science project Our Outdoors to answer questions about features of outdoor spaces and how you feel in them. Everyone who contributes to the challenge will be in with a chance of winning a voucher prize, with the more spaces you visit the higher your chance of winning! By gathering this data, we can better understand how outdoor spaces affect wellbeing for different population groups which can inform future outdoor space developments. We’ll be working with a youth group in Edinburgh to collate and analyse data from the challenge to turn it into a graphic showcasing the best places around Edinburgh which promote wellbeing. The graphic will be emailed to everyone who takes part in the challenge for you to continue exploring outdoor spaces. To join the challenge, all you need to do is register for Our Outdoors: Home - Our Outdoors. Every spot you add to the map during the Festival of Social Science will count as one ticket in our prize draw! We’ll be posting updates on the Our Outdoors website and social media channels (@OurOutdoorsUK on X and Instagram) We can’t wait to see your contributions!
Our Green Space Challenge links to our research within the GroundsWell consortium. GroundsWell aims to better understand and evidence the role of urban green and blue spaces within wider social, economic, environmental, cultural and health systems by identifying and implementing actions to maximise health benefits. In particular, we have a strong focus on doing this through community action by co-producing research with a range of partners and using approaches such as citizen science. By gathering data through the citizen science project Our Outdoors you’ll be helping us to better understand how green spaces can be developed to promote health and wellbeing for all.
