What’s on offer?

This interactive session will take place in person and introduce school staff to the 'Universal Design for Learning' (UDL) framework, focusing on strategies to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The event includes a presentation, small group discussions, and hands-on exploration of the Widget software, which enhances communication in the classroom. Speakers will stimulate discussion on how UDL principles can help improve communication and social interactions for children in primary schools. The session will conclude with a Q&A.

What’s it about?

This event will provide school staff with tools and strategies to foster inclusive education by using the UDL framework, particularly focusing on communication for children with SEND. Who’s leading the event?

The event will be led by experts from the University of Plymouth and the Local Authority, including the Head of SEND and a Speech and Language Therapist. These professionals will guide the discussions and offer insights into improving support for SEND children through communication-focused strategies.
