The Children’s Museum of Bearwood

Assorted colour crayons on colour paper sheets

What’s on offer?

30th October 2024, 1.30pm-4pm, Bear Bookshop, High Street, Bearwood B66 4BW

A drop-in creative workshop for primary school aged children: join us for a free afternoon of crafting as we build the Children’s Museum of Bearwood together. Children will each build their own ‘room’ of the museum, based on what matters to them. All materials will be supplied, along with squash and biscuits. The finished museum will be displayed at the Bear Bookshop and then at Thimblemill Library. Stay for as long or as little as you like.

What’s it about?

This workshop will encourage children to engage with ideas about cultural diversity by thinking about who they are, what they enjoy doing, and what matters to them. The workshop is based on the findings of the CHIEF project, a large piece of research looking at how young people across Europe understand and experience cultural diversity. The project found that creating inclusive cultural learning opportunities for young people starts from embracing what matters most to them.

Who’s leading the event?

The workshop will be led by Dr Katie Tonkiss, Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Policy at Aston University, and local Bearwood mum.
