The world in crisis

What’s on offer?

This panel discussion celebrates the launch of Miguel de Beistegui’s new book, A Philosophy of Crisis, which helps us better understand the sense that we are living in a time of constant crisis. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A inviting questions from the in-person and online audience.

What’s it about?

Crises abound today – our economies, democracies, social relations, cultural identities and the very planet we live on are subjected to repeated and increasingly severe shocks. So have we entered an age of chronic crisis?

You will learn about concepts and theories that might help us to better understand and respond to the sense that we are living in a period of crisis where time feels ‘‘out of joint’’.

Who’s leading the event?

  • Miguel de Beistegui, ICREA Research Professor of Philosophy at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona.
  • Demetra Kasimis, Assistant Professor in Political Theory at the University of Cambridge.
  • Jonathan White, Professor of Politics and Deputy Head of the European Institute at LSE.
  • Chaired by Abby Innes, Associate Professor of Political Economy in the European Institute at LSE.
