Using Simulation Models to Inform Educational Policy and Practice

What’s on offer?

During this one-hour virtual event, Professors Chris Brown, Peter Tymms and colleagues will introduce you to an ambitious project, the aim which is to provide a facility for modelling the impact of proposed policy changes before they are implemented. Its success, even partial success, would have a massive impact on the effectiveness of the educational system and the consequent step change in economic performance and functioning of society.

What’s it about?

Educational policy has had almost no impact on the national standards of basic skills across the western world (Bolden and Tymms 2020). This is despite major efforts of government and researchers over decades. One reason for this is our (researchers’ and policy-makers’) inability to assess the impact of policy changes before they are implemented. By way of analogy, consider a situation in engineering where no bridge, power station or car is built without prior modelling and experimenting.

Who’s leading the event?

Professors Chris Brown, Peter Tymms and colleagues

Open to

While open to anyone interested in the future of education, the session will particularly appeal to policy-makers, teachers and school leaders and those working in Multi-Academy Trusts.
