Please join us for a “Sound Journey” round Liverpool followed by a workshop. Numbers are limited so reserve a place via the booking link.
1230-2PM Sound Journey
A ‘sound journey’ around Liverpool city centre. This is a self-guided audio tour lasting around 90 minutes, if completed in full. The tour is accessed through the free ‘Echoes’ app on a smart phone.
2-4PM Workshop
A creative workshop led by Collective Encounters theatre company at the Everyman Theatre on Hope Street. Participants will have the chance to engage with, and create, different stories from in and around the city.
Although the “Voices on the Streets” Sound Journey is self-guided and you are welcome to do it in your own time, we recommend you begin at the Everyman theatre at 1230 where we will be able to offer technical support if you need it.
Echoes App and “Voices on the Streets” tour can be downloaded here: https://explore.echoes.xyz/collections/0iwFaB9fhAQe14n6 .
We recommend that you bring headphones for the best experience and use WiFi to download the app and the audio tour before you begin in order to save data.
At each stop on the tour, you can listen to a community-created poem or biographical story. The content has been written and performed by different community groups in the city, and is based on University research that the groups explored in creative workshops. It covers topics such as migration, food, environment, civic identity and what it means to be Scouse.
The workshop in the second half of the event will give participants a chance to explore these themes creatively.
Sam Solnick and Sophie Oliver (Senior Lecturers in English Literature, University of Liverpool) alongside staff from Collective Encounters, an arts organisation specialising in ‘Theatre for Social Change’.
