Bradford residents will have the opportunity to share their views on the safety of women and girls in Bradford. The aim of the event is to increase women’s awareness of research in this area, initiatives to support vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, and give women and girls the opportunity to share their views of safety and access to support. This will support the ESRC Vulnerability & Policing Futures Research Centre’s Bradford Mapping project and ongoing work by other researchers who seek to improve women and girls’ safety in Parks. The Bradford Mapping project seeks to better understand violence against women and girls in Bradford city centre, what services are available and how these are perceived and engaged with.
This event aims to support the local community in Bradford to address violence against women and girls. Researchers from the University of Leeds and the University of York are interested in what women and girls in Bradford think about this topic and what local organisations and services can do to help women and girls feel safe.
We will talk about local and national initiatives that aim to make Bradford city centre and parks a safer place for women and girls. We would like to hear your thoughts on this. Your views on women and girls’ safety in Bradford will help the team to understand how women and girls feel and what, if anything, you would like to see change. Our recommendations for local services and the local authority will include these views to improve service provision in the future.
As an attendee, you can expect to meet friendly researchers who have been working in Bradford for several years, who would like to share with you what they have heard from practitioners and community members about how to support women and girls. More importantly, we will ask for your opinions about women and girls’ safety in Bradford. This may involve different activities depending on how much time you have and what you would like to share.
