Work Meets Personal Life: Navigating Social Media in The Workplace

Social media in the workplace

Our digital lives theme

What’s on offer?

In today’s digital age, where the boundaries between personal and professional lives are increasingly blurred, understanding how social media impacts workplace dynamics is crucial.

This event will explore the various ways in which social media use affects how employees feel, think, behave, and how they are perceived by others in the workplace.

What’s it about?

Building on the findings from a British Academy Small Grant-funded project that explored the effects of social media bragging in the workplace,
Dr Hongbo (Daisy) Liu and Dr Shi (Tracy) Xu from the University of Surrey will be joined by a panel of expert speakers to share their insights.

They will delve into how individuals’ social media presence can shape colleagues' perceptions, the fine line between personal branding and oversharing, and how companies can leverage social platforms to boost employee engagement.

They'll also explore the pressing issue of maintaining productivity in a world of digital distractions, and discuss practical strategies for impacts of social media use on psychological wellbeing.

For managers and business owners, this event will offer you insight into how social media can affect their employees and how to use it to enhance employee engagement, productivity, and well-being.

For individual employees, particularly young professionals and students entering the workforce, you will receive a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics of social media use in the workplace, understand the real-world implications of your online activities and discover strategies to navigate social media effectively.
