What's on offer?

Find out more about Local Welfare Assistance in York and share your experiences. After a short introduction by the organisers, you will be invited to take part (at your own pace) in activities which explore different aspects of the cost of living crisis and local welfare support in York.

Co-produced by local residents, this event is part of current lived experience research, which has been commissioned by the Local Welfare Safety Net project, a Lloyds Bank Foundation funded collaboration.

What's it about?

The Local Welfare Safety Net project is all about making sure support is working for the people who need it most. This collaboration addresses the increasing importance of local welfare packages, designed to help households struggling to make ends meet from the mainstream benefits system. The project aims to improve schemes such as the Household Support Fund, York Financial Assistance Scheme, Council Tax support, and food and fuel vouchers.

The collaboration consists of seven partners: the University of York, City of York Council, Age UK York, Citizens Advice York, York Foodbank, Peasholme Charity and the Welfare Benefits Unit.

#TalkMoney

This event falls during Talk Money Week in York and nationally. Talk Money weeks aim to break down barriers and make it easier for people to share their thoughts and feelings about money. At the event, there will be information on support and guidance on improving financial wellbeing as well as a Benefits Advisor on hand to talk to attendees.

Who's leading the event?

The event will be led by a working group of local residents and facilitated by Lived Insights CIC and Healthwatch York.
