What's on offer?

What happens when children become climate detectives? At Breathe, Think, Act, families will step into the shoes of young scientists and explore the air we breathe and the cities we live in through fun, hands-on activities.

This interactive workshop, led by Dr Jeetendra Sahani at the University of Surrey, is designed especially for children aged 8–13 and their families, offering a perfect blend of learning, discovery, and creativity during the school holidays.

What's it about?

What You’ll Do:

Investigate air quality using real pollution sensors and see live data on how clean (or dirty!) the air is around you.

Experiment with thermal cameras to uncover “hot spots” and “cool zones” in our urban environment.

Design your own climate-friendly city by imagining green roofs, rain gardens, and tree corridors.

Get creative in the “My Cool and Clean Spot” challenge with drawings, designs, or messages to share your vision for a cleaner, cooler world.

Win prizes and take home a certificate to mark your role as a young climate detective.

Why Join?

This isn’t just another workshop, it’s an adventure in science and imagination. Children will step into the role of climate detectives, discovering how air pollution and climate change affect our daily lives. They’ll get to try out real scientific tools, like air quality sensors and thermal cameras, and see the world in a whole new way. Along the way, they’ll find out how trees, plants, and green spaces can cool down our cities and make them healthier places to live. Most importantly, they’ll work side by side with family and friends to dream up creative solutions for a cleaner, brighter future. Parents and carers can join the fun too, enjoying an afternoon that’s both entertaining and educational, while picking up fresh, practical ideas for greener living at home.

Who's leading the event?

Dr Jeetendra Sahani, University of Surrey

Open to

This event is perfect for families with curious children aged 8–13 who love to explore, experiment, and get hands-on with science. It’s also a great opportunity for teachers, youth workers, and community leaders to discover playful and practical ways of teaching climate science. And of course, anyone who wants to learn more about clean air, healthy cities, and how we can all make a difference is warmly invited. Come along, grab a thermal camera, and get ready to uncover the secrets of the air we breathe!
