What's on offer?

Join leading academics from the University of Surrey, Royal Holloway University of London, and the University for the Creative Arts for a solutions-focused workshop exploring how universities and local organisations can work together to shape the future of skills in Surrey.

What's it about?

Through a mix of case studies and roundtable discussions, the session will showcase real-world examples of successful collaborations between academia and business or community partners, explore the skills Surrey will need for the future of work and how partnerships can help deliver them, and identify both the barriers and opportunities for collaboration, including practical pathways to funding and impact.

Who's leading the event?

Professor Amelia Hadfield (University of Surrey) will share insights on Surrey’s first Community of Practice, established to coordinate skills development across the county, highlighting a Leatherhead pilot that has linked secondary school pupils with employer-led training and guaranteed job pathways. She will also share findings from Surrey’s flagship NEETS initiative.

Dr Nisreen Ameen (Royal Holloway, University of London) will showcase innovation through university–industry collaborations, including her fellowship with Skills England and the Department for Education. She has developed a package of AI skills tools designed to support individuals, educators, and businesses in adapting to the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.

Professor Dr Elisabetta Lazzaro (University for the Creative Arts) will present her current research into how Surrey’s creative and cultural industries businesses are innovating in digital funding and financing.
