Wearable Technology for Older Adults: Try It, Test It, Talk About It
Date & time
5 November 2025 | 10.00-14.00
What's on offer?
Come along to a relaxed, hands-on workshop where older adults can have a go with wearable devices, learn how they work, and share their views on what makes them comfortable and user-friendly. Participants will try out wearable devices, exploring key features such as straps, fastenings, screen readability, and overall comfort. The event will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with refreshments provided. The venue will be a fully accessible community space (to be confirmed) in Birmingham city centre.
What's it about?
Wearable technology is often designed without considering the needs and preferences of older adults. This event will give participants the opportunity to explore these devices first-hand, understand how they can support health and wellbeing, and have their say on how wearable tech could be made more user-friendly. The session aims to build confidence, raise awareness, and encourage discussions about the importance of inclusive design
Who's leading the event?
The event will be led by Ekgari Kasawala, PhD researcher, and supervisors Dr Surej Mouli and Dr Antonio Fratini from Aston University's Engineering for Health Research Centre, Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering.
Open to
The event is open to adults aged 60 and over. Any older adult interested in learning more about health gadgets is welcome to attend.
Of particular interest to
This event may be of particular interest to those who are curious about wearable technology but may have little or no prior experience with such devices. It's designed to be welcoming and accessible for everyone, regardless of their technical background.
