What is ‘a working life’? Changing the story with people aged over 65
Interactive workshops exploring how older people continue to work, contribute, and learn after traditional retirement age.
Date & time
29 October 2025 | 19.00-21.00
What's on offer?
Two creative and discussion-based workshops, each lasting two hours. Participants will take part in activities, conversations, and knowledge sharing designed to highlight the ongoing value of work and learning in later life.
Millbrook Village Hall, Cornwall – 29 October 2025, 19:00–21:00
Leadworks, Plymouth – 6 November 2025, 11:00–13:00
What's it about?
The workshops draw on findings from the Leverhulme Trust-funded project Invisible Education Post-65: Reconfiguring Lives and Learning, which challenges the assumption that work ends with paid employment. The events will explore older people’s experiences of volunteering, caring, and other forms of unpaid work, encouraging new ways of thinking about what “working life” means beyond traditional retirement.
Who's leading the event?
Led by researchers from the University of Plymouth, working in collaboration with community partners in Stonehouse (Plymouth) and Millbrook (Cornwall).
