What's on offer?

Join us for an interactive talk on who is doing the housework which will take place at the Heath bookshop in Kings Heath, Birmingham.

What's it about?

Housework is an inescapable part of everyday life. This interactive talk will showcase the latest research on how housework is divided in homes. It will provide an opportunity for you to reflect on your own divisions of housework and learn more about which tasks are more likely to be shared, and which are more resistant to change and why. We will discuss what it means to ‘mostly’ do a task, the different definitions of tasks themselves and the various reasons people give to rationalise their understanding of who does what and why.

There will be free coffee/tea and cake, and all attendees will receive a ‘household portrait’ activity kit to take home, which can be used to carry on conversations about housework divisions with those who share your domestic space.

Who's leading the event?

Dr Emily Christopher, Lecturer in Sociology at Aston University
