What's on offer?

Writing Wrongs Live! is an interactive live recording of a special episode of the Writing Wrongs podcast for the ESRC Festival of Social Science exploring the origins of forensic linguistics in the UK and internationally. Writing Wrongs Live! will be held on 22nd October 4pm – 6pm and the resulting episode will be released on 7th November all within the ESRC Festival of Social Science. 

What's it about?

Writing Wrongs Live! will focus on the discipline of forensic linguistics and will feature discussions of cases and casework, competitions with prizes, an interview with authors of a forthcoming book on the Origins, Progress and Prospects for forensic linguistics in the UK, and there will be plenty of time for audience participation and questions.

Who's leading the event?

Writing Wrongs Live! will be hosted by Professor Tim Grant and Dr Nicci MacLeod from the Aston Institute of Forensic Linguistics and the Writing Wrongs podcast.  They are both experienced forensic linguistic practitioners and have provided expert investigative assistance and evidence in court in hundreds of cases between them as well as teaching forensic linguistics to students at Aston.

Open to

Any member of the general public is welcome to attend including young people and schools groups (recommended from Year 10- age 14/15 upwards).   The podcast contains adult themes associated with true crime, but the event will be appropriate for these age groups.

Of particular interest to

The event will be of interest to anyone interested in how true crime, linguistics and language analysis intersect, and how the analysis of language can help improve the delivery of justice. It will also be of interest to students of law and lawyers and law enforcement professionals.
