What's on offer?

Join us for an online event exploring the realities of working life for young women today, how social media is shaping their experiences and expectations, and what support is available to help them navigate the challenges of employment.

Led by Dr Nathalie Weidhase, Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication at the University of Surrey, this event brings together the latest research with insights from professionals and organisations supporting women in the workplace. Together, we’ll explore the challenges, opportunities and changing expectations of working life, with opportunities for you to share your own experiences and put questions to our panel.

What's it about?

From #Girlboss to #LazyGirlJobs, social media is full of competing messages about career success. But how do these online trends compare with young women’s real-life experiences?

Drawing on new research into young women’s working experiences, our panel will explore:

How social media influences young women’s attitudes towards work, career choices and expectations.

The challenges of navigating employment during the cost of living crisis, including workplace discrimination and balancing work with family life.

Whether social media can be a positive force for sharing experiences, accessing advice and understanding workplace rights.

What practical advice, resources and support are available to help women navigate their working lives.

There will be opportunities to contribute your thoughts throughout the event, followed by a live Q&A where you can put your questions to our panel

Who's leading the event?

Dr Nathalie Weidhase, Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication at the University of Surrey
