What's on offer?

Join members of the Local Health and Global Profits research consortium as we take over a pop-up shop in Swindon to explore how we experience our local high streets and how businesses influence our health.

Through games, creative activities, and family-friendly conversations, we’ll use the local high street to uncover the hidden influences that shape our daily lives, and invite you to share your ideas for creating healthier, more vibrant communities.

What's it about?

High streets and the businesses that operate in them play an important role in our communities. At their best, they are places where people can meet, access services, shop locally and support the local economy. They can also provide jobs and help create a sense of community.

However, not all high streets are thriving. When they are poorly designed, lack a variety of shops and services, struggle to support independent businesses, or become dominated by outlets promoting unhealthy products, they can have a negative impact on health and wellbeing.

The aim of this event is to explore how the places where we live, work and spend time can influence our health and wellbeing. Using the local high street as a starting point, we'll invite people to share ideas about what helps communities thrive and how we can create healthier, happier places for everyone.

Come along, get creative, take home some new ideas, and share your insights to help create healthier, fairer and more connected local communities.

Who's leading the event?

The Local Health and Global Profits (LHGP) research consortium.

LHGP is a partnership of five universities and organisations from local government, public health and civil society. Together, we explore how businesses influence health and wellbeing, and work with local authorities to identify practical ways to improve health and reduce inequalities in communities.
