The Long Table: Pensions

The Long Table: Pensions is a public performance and a space for collective discussion, where attendees are invited to join in a public discussion on the topic of pensions. Following a methodology originally conceived by renowned performance artist Lois Weaver, the Long Table creates a non-hierarchal discussion that makes space for voices less easily heard, and values everybody’s expertise and experiences. The Long Table: Pensions will take place between 5pm and 6:30pm on Friday 23rd October 2026 at the Moseley Hive.

The event centres around a long table with 20 chairs and a few microphones, and surrounding chairs for spectators. Anyone can join or leave the table at any time to share their thoughts and start a dialogue on the topic of pensions – there will be prompts around the space too. On the table is a white tablecloth and pens so that people at the table can write their thoughts if they don’t feel like saying them out loud. A host will ensure that discussion is respectful and that everyone is being listened to, but otherwise, the direction of conversation is led by the participants.

The event will be led by Dr Izzy Stuart, established arts practitioner, with Dr Hayley James, Senior Research Fellow from the Aston Centre for Personal Financial Wellbeing (CPFW).

The event is open to working age adults who are saving into a pension or thinking about doing so.
