What's it about?
Low energy availability (LEA) is when you do not eat enough to support the activity and exercise you are doing and it leaves your body without enough energy to run optimally. If you are in this state for a long time you can develop Relative Energy Deficiency in sport (REDs) which is a cluster of negative health and performance outcomes that can impact lots of your body's systems. It could impact bone health, recovery, training benefits, reproductive health and mean you are more likely to get injured or find it hard to recover from illness. This topic will focus on the things to look out for and how to make sure your body has enough energy for your active life while having enough leftover for health.
Who's leading the event?
Lindsay Macnaughton, Associate Professor of Sport Nutrition and Sport Nutritionist will be working with the staff from the Sport and Physical Activity Team from the Student Experience Directorate.
