Our digital lives theme

What’s on offer?

This one-hour, online interactive event will introduce participants to the Strathclyde research project examining the impacts of digital tools on toddler's language and literacy skills. The event will include interactive play for parents and toddlers using digital props supplied to parents in advance of the event. Parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions and to debate the role of technology in the lives and learning of babies and toddlers.

What’s it about?

Digital technologies in early childhood is a long-debated subject.  Parents continue to suffer anxiety about how best to support young children with digital experiences because of conflicting messages in the press.  This activity will support parents to make informed decisions about the role of technologies for babies and toddlers in their home learning experience.

The session is informed by world-class research that helps to demonstrate the ways in which technologies can support children’s digital literacy development, their language and talk and general learning experiences.  We will demonstrate the key role that adults play in supporting children’s learning with these devices in safe ways.

In attending this event, you will receive a bag of play resources and have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field about how technologies can form part of a child’s learning in thoughtful ways and how we as parents and carers are a central part in supporting children to develop their own empowered, careful and considered digital journey, starting from the earliest years of life.
