Your Money in the Age of AI - A Talk for Young People Aged 17 to 19
Staying Smart and Getting a Fair Deal
Date & time
4 November 2026 | 13.30-14.30
Money & finance theme
What's on offer?
This free, interactive session, is designed to help you better understand everyday and in-app spending, "buy now, pay later", student finance and spot dodgy "finfluencer" tips. We hope this talk will help you feel more confident about your finances, with a free one-page guide to take away.
What's it about?
Bank branches are closing, banking has moved online onto apps, and AI is now built into the financial products we all use. Algorithms set credit limits and approve loans, chatbots dispense "advice", and AI-enabled scams are harder to spot. This event will help you recognise when AI is shaping a financial decision about you and how to judge it critically. We aim to support you in understanding your rights and knowing how to complain.
The talk will share how AI already shapes financial decisions about you, how to spot scams, and how to get a fair deal. This talk is aimed at young people, covering topics such as getting your first bank account, student finance, everyday spending, and distinguishing good advice from bad advice, online.
This session is informal, assumes no prior knowledge, and is led by independent university researchers with no product to sell. This is a space where it is fine to ask the questions you might feel embarrassed to ask elsewhere.
Who's leading the event?

- Morgaine Conway-Grim, Founder of Hawks & Doves
Open to
