Adventures in English Grammar - Holmfirth Library
Boosting confidence in English for children 7-11 and their families
Date & time
27 October 2025 | 14.00-16.00
What's on offer?
The event takes the form of a drop-in to a pop-up at one of three local libraries. Come along any time the pop-up is open, to learn more about English grammar and to take part in interactive themed games and activities to improve your knowledge and confidence of grammar. Most likely you will spend 20- 30 minutes at the drop in, but there will be extension activities available if you want to spend longer with us.
What's it about?
The event is about English syntax (which is popularly called “grammar”). It focuses on prepositions (words like of, with, at, to, under) that can be used by speakers of English in variable ways and which can be very challenging to define. The event is aimed at inspiring and supporting children who are required to learn about English grammar as part of their KS2 school curriculum, especially those in years 5 and 6 working toward SATs, who are required to know about aspects of Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar (SPaG). Although it might be a bit mystifying at first, grammar can be thought-provoking and far from being a series of pre-determined rules, there are lots of places where speakers can make their own choices.
