What's on offer?

Join an interactive hands-on workshop exploring the many factors that influence what we eat. Using large visual maps and participatory activities, you'll help create a picture of the complex systems that shape healthy eating in everyday life.

What's it about?

Healthy eating is often presented as a matter of individual responsibility, but the reality is far more complex. Through a series of fun and interactive mapping exercises, visitors can explore the many pressures that influence what we eat. Working together, visitors will create visual maps showing how issues such as money, transport, advertising, local food shops and family circumstances shape what we eat. The activity introduces 'systems thinking' and shows how understanding the links between who we are, where we live, how we live, and what is available can help identify ways to improve dietary inequalities.

Who's leading the event?

Claire Thompson and Lucy Michaels, University of Hertfordshire, with collaborators from the GLADIOLI project.
