What's on offer?

Do you wonder how language influences the way we process information? In an interactive audio-visual workshop, explore the relationship between language and thought.

Many believe that language is needed for logical thinking and decision making. Through talks and hands-on activities, you will be encouraged to ask questions, reflect, and share views and experiences on your decision making process.

What's it about?

Expert researchers in cognetive functioning will present insightful findings from brain-imaging research and individuals with severe language impairment. The event will demonstrate how performance on very high-level inductive and deductive reasoning tasks can be performed without access to language.

Taking place at HOME, Manchester's dynamic arts space, this event will be a unique opportunity to delve deeper into perceptions about language acquisition in a supportive, inclusive environment.

As of January 2027, staff and students at Manchester Metropolitan University will introduce an accessible support group for stroke survivors and people living with aphasia. The service will be launched at this event and involve a variety of activities to support communication, cognetion, movement, and well being.

Who's leading the event?

Dr Yael Benn, Senior Lecturer within Health and High-Order Cognition

Sally Pratten, Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy
