What's it about?
Huddersfield Business School is leading an applied research initiative aimed at engaging school-leavers across West Yorkshire. This project showcases how cutting-edge research from the University of Huddersfield is uncovering the vital links between mental wellbeing, income, and productivity—and how these insights can shape brighter futures. While the connection between wellbeing and productivity is well established, many young people remain unaware of how improved mental health can directly influence their earning potential and career success. This is especially relevant in West Yorkshire, where challenges around deprivation and employability persist. Through interactive sessions and real-world examples, we aim to:
Highlight emerging career paths, including those shaped by AI and new technologies.
Raise awareness of the skills needed for future jobs.
Showcase research that connects wellbeing to economic outcomes.
Engage young people in shaping research that reflects their lived experiences.
Our goal is to make the National Health Innovation Campus a hub for community-driven research that informs policy and practice. By participating in the Festival of Social Science, we hope to inspire informed decision-making among young people as they choose their next steps—whether in education, apprenticeships, or employment.
