What's on offer?
This event will bring together members of the public, community partners and University of Leicester researchers for an interactive afternoon exploring health, wellbeing and community priorities of individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell Disorder and Thalassaemia. The aim is to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to share knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on healthy eating, wellbeing, and the challenges associated with living with inherited blood disorders through an interactive and multi-generational event.
Activities on the day will include:
presentations from UoL researchers on research linked to health inequalities, community engagement and wellbeing
a facilitated research priority-setting activity,
a creative health activity for children,
health, wellbeing and research stalls to provide opportunities for information-sharing.
As well as sharing findings from social science research, attendees will be invited to share their experiences, views and questions to help identify the issues that matter most to communities to inform future research.
What's it about?
This event aims to raise public awareness of University of Leicester social science research and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue between researchers and local communities. Using the theme of ‘Eat Well, Live Well’ as a starting point, the event will explore how social science research can help us understand health, wellbeing, food practices, community support and inequalities in access to health information and services. Attendees will hear from UoL researchers, take part in interactive discussions, and contribute to a research priority-setting activity designed to identify community-informed questions for future research.
Who's leading the event?
The event will be led by community engagement officers at the Centre for Ethnic Health Research (CEHR), researchers who work alongside CEHR and volunteers from the partnered community centre (Comfort Centre). Speakers on the day will include. Dr. Shavez Jeffers and Dr Tolu Onuwe who will lead the research priority-setting activity and engage with attendees via the CEHR research stall. There will also be a presentation given by Sickle Cell and Thalassemia expert.
