Dr Adeline Berry, a researcher of intersex lived experience and a member of the intersex community, will give a presentation introducing intersex for the uninitiated employing data from their PhD research and recent workshops with the intersex community to illustrate obstacles faced by intersex people seeking secure employment and explore some practical immediate and long-term solutions to these issues.

There will be a PowerPoint presentation plus exercises, a quiz and prizes.

What's it about?

Despite comprising as much as two percent of the population, intersex people face many hurdles in the workplace rooted in intersex invisibility, stigma, prejudice, bullying and medical malpractice.

Dr Adeline Berry, a researcher of intersex lived experience as well as a member of the intersex community, will give a presentation introducing intersex for the uninitiated and employing data from their PhD research and recent art workshops with the intersex community to illustrate obstacles faced by intersex people seeking secure employment and explore some practical immediate solutions to these issues as well as long-term solutions.

This talk should be of interest to hiring managers, employers, medical professionals, intersex people and many members of the public –many people know intersex employees, friends, and/or family members without knowing or understanding the struggles the intersex person is facing. Intersex people themselves are often missing important information about their medical histories and do not understand some limitations accompanying their variation and can become injured or disabled as a result. With some insight and awareness, intersex people can be valuable contributors to the shared goals of employee and employer.

Who's leading the event?
