Let’s Eat: Are food delivery apps changing the way we eat - and at what cost?
Date & time
28 October 2026 | 10.00-15.30
Money & finance theme
What's on offer?
Drop in any time during our family-friendly exhibition day at Manchester Central Library on 28th October - come for five minutes or stay for half an hour.
You will be able to explore interactive displays on food delivery app spending and habits, test your knowledge at our quiz and competition stations (how much do you think the average household spends on takeaways a week?), and add your own voice to the research by recording a short voice note about your own experiences with apps like Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat, either on your own phone or one of our iPads.
What's it about?
Food delivery apps have become part of daily life for millions of us, but how much are they really changing the way we shop, cook and eat — and what is it costing us, in money and otherwise? This event explores the findings of an ongoing University of Salford and University of Leeds study into food delivery apps, set against this year's festival theme of Money, Finance and the Cost of Living.
Expect surprising statistics, a chance to compare your own habits with the national picture, and an opportunity to have your say, whether you order every week or have never used an app in your life.
Who's leading the event?
Dr Maria Kutar, Professor Marie Griffiths and Dr Yun Chen, from the University of Salford
Open to
Everyone — this is a free, drop-in event for all, with no need to book.
It's designed to appeal to families and individuals of all ages - anyone with an interest in food and money!
Of particular interest to
Particularly of interest to households managing food budgets during the cost-of-living crisis, and to anyone curious about how digital platforms are quietly shaping everyday spending and eating habits — including those who never use delivery apps themselves.
