What's on offer?
Step into the ‘Care Gallery’ – a visual journey into the everyday realities of balancing work with unpaid care. Through a series of striking illustrations by illustrator, Beci Ward, drawn from our research with informal carers of people with disabilities, we bring real stories to life: the challenges they navigate, the skills they build, and the unseen impact of their care.
We invite you to explore, reflect, and engage:
- Vote for the image that resonates most with you
- Add your voice to our “Care Gallery”
- Share your own reflections on care and work
Your feedback will help us understand how art and research can work together to deepen empathy, influence policy, and inspire change – giving carers’ experiences the visibility and value they deserve.
What's it about?
Behind closed doors, millions of informal carers support people with disabilities every day – often balancing this with employment, education, and their own wellbeing. Yet the realities of this vital work are rarely seen or understood. Our research investigates the work experiences of informal carers, uncovering the skills they develop, the challenges they navigate, and the profound personal and social impact of their roles. To share these findings in a fresh, engaging way, we’ve commissioned a series of original illustrations by Beci Ward based directly on carers’ own words and stories. Experience the unseen realities of caring and join us in recognising the extraordinary people behind everyday support.
